The Cafeteria at my job SUCKS!!

I have the unfortunate luck to work for a company that probably has the worst cafeteria on the planet. What’s worse is that the company I work for can certainly afford a better standard for our facility. Anyway, here are the reasons that the food is just HORRIBLE.

- PRICE: Most employers subsidize the cost of food so employees can stay in to eat. It makes lunches go faster and most people eat while working. My Cafeteria…..NO! I can easily get better deals eating out at a deli, or even my local restaurant. An entree and a drink can easily run $7.00. Not a bargain by any means.

-QUALITY: The only food that I feel comfortable eating in this cafeteria are the cold cuts (Boar’s Head) and the french fries (don’t know the brand, but they taste like potatoes). The other items are just too suspect to even fathom a taste, especially the “meat”. I don’t know where they get their beef, but I believe that beef served in prison is of higher quality. If I am in the daring mood for a hamburger, I usually ask for it well done. Well, it’s usually only well done on the outside and raw on the inside, but I’m usually so hungry that I just eat around the uncooked parts. Why wouldn’t I just throw it out you ask? because I just spent $7.00 on it and I don’t have the time or the stomach to go back and try to eat something else.

-SELECTION: There just isn’t much. You can either get a cold sandwich, the “grill” special, which is usually some type of experiment by a short order cook. You can attempt the “chef’s special” which usually consists of “questionable” meat products or you can also have pizza and honestly, frozen pizza in your local supermarket is better, 10 fold. If you feel like braving an ecoli infection you can fancy yourself a “salad”. I don’t think I need to explain further. If you’re a little under the weather, you can try the “soups”, but I would rather eat used mop bucket water. Should I describe what the “Vegetable Beef Barley” looks like?? Yeah!!! Me too.

Breakfast is a whole other story. Let’s just say that when eggs are poured from a carton onto a grill, it’s not that appetizing, when the cafeteria opens at 7:30 and at 10am the home fries are still in tact…..can’t really be that good.

-SERVICE: For the most part it’s not bad. The staff is courteous and fast. However, some of the talent behind the serving areas look like they belong or just got out of prison. So, needless to say, I would not argue if they got my order wrong. I just take it and go.

Some people who work in my office choose to brave the cafeteria on a daily basis, and that’s fine. If they want to cut their life expectancy short, that is their choice. I’m pretty sure that if an analysis was done on sick days and what was served in the cafeteria, there may be a connection there.

Until the vendor is switched, I will continue to journey out and find edible, safer food at better prices.

  1. What in the HELL is that?! Omg gross. Seriously, pack a lunch before they kill you.

  2. Oh dear, dearie me. You poor bastard. That doesn’t look like food, it looks like what I’ve just shovelled out of our backyard chicken coop after last fortnight’s rain!

I’m with Briegh – Pack your lunch, or dare to leave the building and walk outside for fresh air, better food and a decent break….. before they kill you!

  3. OMG, it look like shit!
Is that a conspiracy? A way to drive employees insane?

  4. Give CulinArt a call, 516.390.2748. We’ve never served anything that comes close to looking like that…
