Mind boggling

October 14, 2011 Leave a comment

There is a 9% unemployment rate in this country and our economy is suffering, but things like this still happen:

  • iPhone 4S mania: There were 1 million pre orders for the iPhone 4s on the first day you were able to pre order it. All those people were prepared to drop a minimum of $200 on a new phone and about $80 – $100 per month on it’s service. The part that boggles my mind is how people can wait hours and even days in line to get one! There are people looking desperately for jobs and then there are the folks who call in sick so they can wait in line for an iPhone 4S.

The Simpsons take on Apple

Here’s a funny spoof by the Simpsons on the Apple store. Pretty accurate if you ask me, as I write this on my MacBook.

MacBook Love

November 26, 2008 Leave a comment

overview-gallery3-20081014

So I made a dive into the Mac world again. I was in the market for a new laptop and I looked at all the major brands, Dell, HP, etc. They all had one thing that was just wrong. They all look like crap! and feel the same way. The macbook is solid and sturdy and built very well. I got the 13.3″ macbook.

The other problem was the OS. As much as I like Windows Vista, it’s just not good enough for what I like, which is photography, music and video. Vista is a memory hog and it’s slow. The only good thing about Vista is that pretty much everything is now compatible with it. I also love MS Office 2007. It works well on Vista and for my day to day work, I would use a PC. For my own entertainment, I definitely prefer a mac and OS X.It really it really is a pleasure to use. The iLife application suite is a joy to use. Honestly, this is the main reason I bought a macbook. There is nothing on the windows platform that comes close.

Granted, there are laptops out there with a better feature set for less money, but as far as usability and stability. You really can’t beat a mac. God! I sound like a commercial.

The thing that amazes me is that when I went to the mac store to purchase my laptop, The store was jam packed when it opened. I mean there was a line outside of about 20 people waiting to get in. When I go in there and played witht eh different versions of macbooks, I was really impressed by the speed of the OS, the quality of the product and the ease of use.

This is just my opinion, but I would only recommend a mac if you are in the market for a laptop. I mean if you use Windows you can dual boot a mac with Windows XP or Vista and they work great on a mac.

One more thing…..The multi-touch trackpad is amazing!

I kissed an iPhone…and I liked it!

I still am trying to figure out why the iPhone is consuming my free time and some of my not so free time. I already have one, but I find myself constantly checking the internet for any new news on the iPhone 3g and the 2.0 software update.

I swear that Steve Jobs is like Colonel Sanders. They both put something in their products that makes you keep craving it daily. I love fried chicken and i love my iphone….Sigh!

Anywho, I was reading articles on Engadget about the iPhone launch and the problems that people are having activating them, buying them and updating them. I personally did not have a problem updating my iPhone even though I used the “pre-release” version. I am currently installing the official iPhone 2.0 update and so far so good.

I still refuse to purchase a new iphone 3g. The one i have is perfectly fine and has the same software as the newer model. No need to update at this time. I’m hoping that my iPhone holds out until Apple can get out of bed with AT&T and sell the iPhone to other carriers, like Verizon (keeping fingers crossed). At least then, there may be some competitive pricing for the service.

Well…that’s my rant on the iPhone for today. By the way the “App Store” on the iPhone is freakin’ awesome.

My gripe with the iPhone “3G”

So July 11th is the big iPhone day. Apple will likely sell out of their inital stock within a week. I still continue to ask myself, do I really want the new iPhone? I have the 1st generation iPhone, July 15th will mark my 1 year anniversary with this product.

I do like the iPhone very much, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t use it in some way. It is very reliable, well built and very user-friendly.

As each day comes to an end and we get closer to “iPhone 3g” day, I wonder about the software update (version 2.0). Why wouldn’t Apple release the software update to current iPhone owners? To me it would make sense to update your current iPhone base and see how the product works.

However, Apple is not releasing the new update until July 11th. I guess they want it all out in one day. Is this really the case?

Here’s what I think….

I think Apple is releasing this software update on the same day as the iPhone 3g because many of the current 1st generation iPhone owners would most likely not buy the new iphone. What is the real difference? Okay, so you get the 3g speeds, updated design, GPS¬†and better battery life (allegedly). As far as the interface goes…STILL THE SAME. There will not be a different interface for the iPhone, no matter which one you have.

Is the 3g speed really that important? Is it worth trying to sell your old iPhone, purchase the new one and also enjoy AT&T’s drastically increased pricing for the iPhone plan. On top of this, if you are a current iPhone owner, AT&T wants you to add an additional $100 dollars to the price of the phone because of the privelidge to upgrade from 1st generation to iPhone 3g….Ain’t AT&T great!!

Bottom line, I really hope that the 1st generation iPhone user base sticks with their product. The 3g speeds are not worth it especially when there is wifi everywhere and who is to say that you will be using the iPhone in an area that actually has 3g service. I also hope that AT&T comes to their senses and reduces the cost of the iphone plan, they know that the prices are extremely high and unfair.

If you plan to buy the new iPhone, please leave a reply and the main reason you’re buying it. I’m just curious to know.

iPhone 3G…Not sure yet?

If you are an original iPhone owner why would you want to ditch it and go for the new 3G iPhone. I have been asking myself this question all day. I currently have the 8GB version. I have to say that I truly do like my iPhone alot. I actually use it more for the internet and iPod than the phone.

So I asked myself, is there a really good reason or reasons to switch?? My first response was “maybe?”, then I began to think of the pros and cons.

Pro’s

  1. It’s a nicer design
  2. Battery life is better
  3. Of course…3G data speeds
  4. GPS
  5. Price ($199 for the 8GB, $299 for the 16GB)

Con’s

  1. AT&T is charging a higher rate for the unlimited data plan ($30 for consumer, $45 for business)
  2. The majority of the places I use the iPhone have wifi
  3. I have a Garmin Nuvi 200 for GPS in my car
  4. The battery life on the origianl suits me just fine
  5. Would be difficult to sell for a good price if I decided to upgrade
  6. Doesn’t come with a dock

Weighing out the pro’s and con’s it doesn’t look like I will be upgrading. I’m not going to be missing out software wise because I will still be running the same version as the 3G iPhone minus the GPS. I am also quite upset that these new iPhones are so much more less expensive than the 3G model. I feel that Apple is using the profits of the 1st generation to appease the buyers of the 2nd…..Not right Apple. If Apple wants to get current iPhone users to switch there better be some type of incentive, such as a $100 credit for a trade in and we should still be able to keep our current data plan rates ($20) on our AT&T plans.

Until then, I just can’t see an upgrade in my future.

3g iPhone…Who Really Cares?

Does anyone who currently has an iPhone really care about the forthcoming 3G iPhone?? I’m thinking YES! I personally do not, I very rarely use the iPhone out of WiFi range, so the 3G does not interest me. I also hope and believe that any new software features will be made available to current iPhone users.

I can’t see getting a new iPhone simply because of the 3G option. The one thing I wish I could do is swap out the internal Flash card for a larger version, 32GB would be nice!!
